Girls Run the World, But How Do We Get More Media Coverage?
19%. That’s the percentage of experts featured in news stories who are women.
Even as the subject of a story, women only show up in a quarter of television, radio, and print news. So what do you do when you feel like the odds are stacked against you? Focus on what you CAN do. And therein lies the solution. Confidence.
For many people, especially women, confidence is a work in progress. Owning a public relations agency, we get to see that up close. It’s why we created a program specifically for women entrepreneurs so we can uplift them, help them find their voice, and tackle the self-doubt we routinely hear. After all is said and done, tackling the main issues boils down to these three things:
1. Don’t worry so much about the way you look.
2. Get comfortable bragging about yourself.
3. Be the expert.
Back to stats and studies, men are more likely than women to do these three things. We want to change that. We want to do our part helping to narrow the disparity in media coverage and share the inspiring work of women across the country and, maybe, inspire them too.
